Are Earth Breeze Laundry Detergent Sheets Non-Toxic & Safe?
Earth Breeze’s laundry detergent Eco Sheets are a safe and non-toxic alternative to traditional liquid laundry detergents. They’re formulated without parabens, phthalates, phosphates, dyes, and bleach. They’re also hypoallergenic and safe for babies, kids, and sensitive skin.
Earth Breeze Ingredients
Earth Breeze’s laundry detergent Eco Sheets are formulated to clean your clothes while still being hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin. If you’re wondering whether Earth Breeze ingredients are safe, they are!
Their formula is bleach-free, phosphate-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, vegan, and cruelty-free. They are Leaping Bunny certified.
Their laundry strips are made from:
- Primary Alcohol Ethoxylate
- Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate
- Sodium Acetate Trihydrate
- Polyvinyl Alcohol
- Deionized Water
There’s a slight variation in formulas for their Fresh Scent variant. This formula includes an added fragrance. They also offer a fragrance-free option that doesn’t have added fragrance. This is an excellent choice for anyone with sensitive skin or allergies.
We do want to take time to comment on the use of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). This ingredient has recently come under fire for contributing to microplastic pollution. While PVA is technically biodegradable, the conditions and equipment needed to degrade PVA are difficult to come by. Most wastewater facilities in the United States aren’t able to do this.
In 2023, a coalition of companies launched a petition to have the EPA reevaluate the safety of PVA. The EPA swiftly rejected this request, citing existing research that was made available after the petition was initiated. The findings? PVA was still considered a relatively safe compound by the EPA.
There’s a lot of nuance to this issue, so we’re going to defer to the EPA’s decision. PVA is considered safe due to its “low-concern characteristics.”
Is Earth Breeze Suitable for Sensitive Skin and Allergy Prone Individuals?
According to Earth Breeze’s website, their Eco Sheets are specifically formulated for people with sensitive skin. Many customers have reported that their detergent is the first eco-friendly formula they have found that doesn’t irritate their skin.
These hypoallergenic detergent strips are paraben- and phthalate-free, so they’re also great for babies and kids. Earth Breeze says that their laundry detergent is recommended by dermatologists for people with sensitive skin. However, they also suggest consulting your doctor for any specific questions you may have regarding your skin and needs.

About Earth Breeze
Earth Breeze is based in Medford, Oregon. The brand manufactures sustainable and eco-friendly cleaning products designed to protect the planet and work effectively. As part of their commitment to zero waste and sustainable practices, their products all come in compostable cardboard packaging instead of traditional plastic jugs and sleeves.
Earth Breeze donates a portion of its sales to those in need through its Buy One, Give Ten program. For each purchase you make from Earth Breeze, they donate ten loads of detergent to those in need. Since laundry detergent is one of the most requested items from homeless shelters and disaster relief programs in the United States, this promise stacks up to make a big change.
Earth Breeze is also a 1% for the Planet partner. If you don’t know what this program is, 1% for the Planet is a joint initiative where companies become partners by agreeing to donate at least 1% of their annual profits to non-profits centered on protecting the planet.
Earth Breeze is also a partner of We Are Neutral, an organization that helps brands offset and reduce their carbon footprint.
Earth Breeze estimates that they have saved 25 million liters of water and kept 10 million plastic jugs out of landfills. They’ve supported planting 150,000 trees and cleaning up 12,000 pounds of plastic. And, to round it out, Earth Breeze has donated $200,000 to Feeding America and 100 million loads of laundry detergent to causes around the world.
If you’re looking for a laundry detergent strip brand that gives back, Earth Breeze’s contributions to non-profit organizations and global initiatives are pretty much unmatched.

How To Use Earth Breeze?
We recommend following the manufacturer’s instructions to properly use Earth Breeze’s laundry strips.
- For top-loaders with a detergent compartment: Tear your Eco Sheet into smaller pieces and add it to the detergent compartment like you would a regular liquid detergent. The water will dissolve the sheet, and add it to your drum like usual.
- For top loaders without a detergent compartment: Toss your Earth Breeze strip into your machine after you’ve already added your clothes. Be sure it lands where your water comes into the machine so it’ll dissolve properly. If you notice residue after the first load, you’ll need to tear the sheets into smaller pieces.
- For front loaders: Tear the Eco Sheet into smaller pieces and add it to the detergent compartment of your machine. Water will flow in, dissolve the strip, and add it to the drum. If you notice a residue left over in the detergent compartment, you can remove the tray and add the sheet directly to the detergent compartment.
Earth Breeze recommends using less detergent than you think you need. They suggest half a sheet for a medium load where half the drum is full. Use one sheet for a large load where 3/4 of the drum is full. They recommend trying two sheets for heavily soiled loads or extra large loads.
Is Earth Breeze Actually Eco-Friendly?
Earth Breeze is one of the most eco-friendly brands we’ve researched. They’re dedicated to protecting the planet by reducing waste. Earth Breeze is also involved in a ton of non-profit work, including 1% for the Planet.
Earth Breeze’s products are packaged in recyclable cardboard sleeves. This reduces waste from storing the product and makes Earth Breeze’s laundry strips much easier to transport, reducing shipping emissions.
In addition to their eco-friendly initiatives, Earth Breeze is also dedicated to helping others through their donation programs. For each purchase you make, Earth Breeze donates 10 loads of laundry worth of detergent to people in need.
Earth Breeze Eco Sheets vs Standard Laundry Detergents
When it comes to finding a detergent that’s great at getting stains out without hurting the environment, many eco-friendly laundry detergents come up short.
Earth Breeze, however, offers one of the best eco-friendly detergents with excellent cleaning power. Its packaging is lightweight and environmentally friendly without harming the environment.
One of the biggest issues with conventional liquid detergents is the mess. There’s always a sticky mess leftover from detergent spilling out of the bottle and measuring cup. The benefit of Earth Breeze? No sticky mess or guessing at how much detergent to use.
Earth Breeze also offers a novel approach to wasteful plastic jugs with their liquid-free formula. Since the strips don’t require bulky packaging, Earth Breeze can ship them in recyclable cardboard sleeves. This reduces the cost and hassle of shipping.
If you didn’t know, shipping cleaning products represents the majority of their carbon footprint. Some estimates put the carbon emissions from shipping cleaning products at “0.7lbs of CO2 emissions per pound of product.” By reducing the weight of laundry detergent, Earth Breeze cuts down a lot on their carbon emissions. And that’s before all of their donations and non-profit contributions!
What Are Customers Saying About Earth Breeze
“I use Earth Breeze. I made the switch a little over a year ago.
I really like them! I use the No Fragrance/ No Dye version (I have sensitive skin).
They get clothes clean, and that’s all I really ask for.
I got the trial pack first… they might still offer trials. It was like 10 sheets or something like that, and I had to pay $1 for shipping. After trying them out, I ordered direct because it’s cheaper.
They will email you a week or two before your next shipment is going to be sent out. If you don’t need your shipment yet, you just click the button in the email – so no need to log into their site or anything. That’s nice and convenient.
I like that the envelope of sheets takes up virtually no space… there’s no giant jug of liquid… or a giant tub or pods or powder… just a neat little envelope.”

“The biggest plus with using these is that I don’t have to carry these big heavy bottles anymore. I have heard others complain about how well it cleans. I find that it cleans just as well as the bottles. Usually when I have a stain I pretreat with a different detergent anyway. I generally only am concerned with general cleaning and I believe it does a wonderful job. One thing that is missing is a nice fragrance but that’s more of a preference but not really needed. You don’t need a fragrance to prove to you that it’s clean. It would be nice to have, yes but since it doesn’t it’s not a deal breaker for me. I love the fact that it doesn’t take as much room on my shelf as the bottles did. If you break down the cost per load it is a little more than what I was using but to me it’s worth it. Overall I am very happy with these detergent sheets and will continue to use them.”
– Amazon review from Mike Hickman.
“We have a crappy 1st gen front loader washing machine. Bc they use so little water, things either come out soapy or not very clean. Until I found this. I tried it bc my hubs has sensitive skin issues and i loved the packaging. Even with my awful washer, things come out so clean and smelling so good! I was skeptical at first but now i’m hooked. It doesn’t have a strong scent, more like a soft passing fragrance when you first pull it out of the wash. It doesn’t irritate the Mister’s skin. I wish it was PH neutral so I could use it one delicates, but the fact that the packaging is completely biodegradable and that they give away product to those in need totally makes up for that to me. If anyone over there is listening, please make a ph neutral one for silks and stuff. 10/10 recommend”
– Amazon review from J.J.
“I LOVE this alternative to large one-use plastic tubs of laundry detergent. It was given to me as a gift. All of my friends and family are trying to use as little plastic as possible. Instead of buying giant gallons of laundry detergent in plastic, one-use containers, we now use these. I feel so much better with the choice of Earth Breeze laundry detergent in sheets. If they didn’t work well, I would try to find something else, but these are great. I am allergic to any scents in detergent, but I don’t notice any in this product. I highly recommend.”
