When you’re trying your best to make sustainable swaps for cleaning products, the store shelves can be a dizzying place. In recent years, the market has seen a surge in the availability of sustainable cleaning products. Shelves now offer more and more options packaged in earthy colors with various non-toxic and sustainability claims and stamps of certification to go along with them.

Brands such as Dropps, Tru Earth, and Blueland are all pioneering a new generation of “green” cleaning products backed by respected certifications.

Alongside them, you’ll find Puracy, an Austin, Texas-based company specializing in creating natural and organic household essentials – and transparency, with their founder Sean Busch saying, “We believe in full transparency when it comes to our product labels and marketing efforts.

Our labels clearly outline every ingredient within each Puracy product – no exaggerations, no omissions.

Puracy’s line of plant-based cleaning and personal care products has sold over 8 million bottles. They also have a deep well of accolades to support that success. The New York Times voted their All Purpose Cleaner best in the market, while the Business Insider touted them as having the Best Bathroom Products available on shelves.

No matter how much good press a brand has, it’s important to discern to look beyond the hype. Let’s take a look at this Puracy Dish review!

A Quick Breakdown of Puracy’s Safety

  • Safety:
Puracy’s DNA lies in creating safe products that don’t leave residues that can come in contact with your most vulnerable family members – kids and pets. Natural and organic ingredients also lend themselves to being safer than traditional cleaning products.
  • Sustainability:
While Puracy isn’t “all the way there,” they do boast that every Puracy formula is at least 98.5% natural, which is a big step towards what gets flushed into waterways. Concentrated formulas lend themselves to less packaging, as do refills. Their ingredients are biodegradable, and the packaging is 100% recyclable.
  • Price range:
Puracy’s product price points are well in line with traditional commercial cleaners, if not under in some cases, due to concentrates, multi-buy options, and refills. A 50-pack of Natural Dishwashing Detergent Packs goes for $9.99, as does the double pack of Natural Gel Handsoap

Are Puracy Cleaning Products Non-Toxic & Safe?

Unfortunately, a huge green wave of new products is well ahead of legislation that mandates a company backing those claims. As a consumer, this can be wildly misleading when terms like “non-toxic” and “safe” are not fully regulated yet.

What you can look for is transparency in ingredients and third-party certifications that vet the product.

So is Puracy a safe and non-toxic brand?

Puracy itself states that a “safe product” is one that is safe to use as directed and will not cause permanent personal harm if overused or consumed. They also highlight that their ingredients do not contain any toxic pesticides, toxic synthetic herbicides, or chemical fertilizers.

However, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) notes that Puracy does not make any products certified as green cleaners by either Green Seal or EcoLogo, two well-respected, accredited third-party certifications.

Despite this, Puracy’s SDS (formerly called MSDS: Material Safety Data Sheet) supports a low overall risk to your health, and the brand has many “A grades” for their products on the Environmental Working Groups listings.

The general consensus is that Puracy products are safe, non-toxic, and suitable for a wide range of users. As always, it’s recommended to use products as directed and check the ingredient list to ensure they meet your personal safety and health standards.

Clean Can Natural Dish Soap Review

  • Key Sustainability Features: Puracy offsets 5kg of carbon emissions through Greenspark, Leaping Bunny Certified, plant-based, and biodegradable.
  • Price: $9.99

This one gets big points in the packaging, although it’s what’s inside that truly counts. Puracy’s Clean Can Natural Dish Soap features the brand’s signature plant based and biodegradable ingredients that are child-safe, pet-safe, and hypoallergenic. The dish soap is notably tough on grease while gentle on hands, boasting a 99.41% natural formula.

For added convenience, Puracy also provides refill options such as the Natural Dish Soap Refill, which features a skin-softening, plant-based liquid dishwashing detergent soap with a clean-rinsing, water-sheeting formula (a fancy way of saying it has great coverage).

One semi-questionable ingredient? Benzisothiazolinone – a synthetic preservative in the otherwise plant-based and biodegradable formula. EWG’s Skin Deep analysis rates this ingredient as “fair” and classifies it as a potential eye, nose, and skin irritant.

Despite this, the overall consensus is that Puracy’s Clean Can Natural Dish Soap is a generally sustainable and non-toxic cleaning solution.

Dish Soap Review

  • Key Sustainability Features: Puracy offsets 5kg of carbon emissions through Greenspark, A Rating from the Environmental Working Group, Leaping Bunny Certified, plant-based, and biodegradable.
  • Price: $22.99 (Three Pack)

We love a multi-pack and we’re glad Puracy offers it in a sustainable format. Their signature naturally derived dish soap is formulated with plant-based ingredients, ensuring it’s biodegradable and free from harsh chemicals. It’s designed to be gentle on your skin but tough on grease and grime, making it an excellent choice for eco-conscious households!

In addition to its eco-friendly dish soap formula, Puracy also offers refills for this dish soap (a must for all sustainable and non-toxic formulas). As for certifications, Puracy is Leaping Bunny and PETA Certified and gets an A rating from EWG.

Why is a Leaping Bunny or PETA Certification important? While they theoretically protect against animal testing, this also translates to alternative testing that ensures the omission of toxic ingredients.

Puracy states that its ingredients do not contain any toxic pesticides, toxic synthetic herbicides, or chemical fertilizers, indicating a commitment to safe and responsible sourcing of ingredients.

This product does contain Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, which is a gentler and less toxic surfactant than sodium lauryl sulfate, but has a moderate to high risk of skin irritation if proper usage isn’t followed.

  • Key Sustainability Features: Puracy offsets 5kg of carbon emissions through Greenspark, Leaping Bunny Certified, A Rating from the Environmental Working Group, plant-based, and biodegradable.
  • Price: $19.99

Laundry detergent is one of the sneaky places that toxic chemicals sneak into our daily lives. Not just in residues that can irritate your skin but also in the air we breathe.

Puracy’s Natural Laundry Detergent is a relatively great non-toxic detergent that ticks many boxes toward a healthier laundry routine. This product is formulated with plant-derived enzymes and natural minerals that effectively clean clothes, making it safe for both your family and the environment.

Puracy emphasizes that their detergent is free from harsh chemicals, sulfates (SLS, SLES, SCS), triclosan, formaldehyde, parabens, phosphates, MEA, DEA, TEA, chlorine, bleach, petrochemicals, animal by-products, allergens, perfumes, dyes, and caustics. Whew! Definitely a case of less is more.

However, the inclusion of certain ingredients like Benzisothiazolinone, known to potentially cause allergies, raises slight concerns. Despite this, Puracy Natural Laundry Detergent is generally recommended for individuals seeking a natural alternative to conventional laundry detergents.

Natural Gel Hand Soap Review

  • Key Sustainability Features: Puracy offsets 5kg of carbon emissions through Greenspark, Leaping Bunny Certified, plant-based, and biodegradable.
  • Price: $9.99

We don’t need a peer reviewed study to tell you that we’re all probably washing our hands more than ever whether it’s the lasting effects of a pandemic or flu season! Ironically, some of these hand soaps are full of toxic chemicals, just as dangerous as the germs we’re trying to avoid.

Compared to conventional hand soaps, which often contain potentially harmful ingredients like parabens, sulfates, and artificial fragrances, Puracy’s Natural Gel Hand Soap stands out as a healthier choice. It’s free from these toxins and instead opts for natural alternatives that are equally effective but without the potential side effects.

Puracy’s Natural Gel Hand Soap is one of the brand’s clean, non-toxic personal care products. It features an ingredient list that is free from harsh chemicals, ensuring it’s safe for regular use by all members of the family.

The soap is formulated with plant-based cleansers and skin conditioners like Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, which not only cleanse effectively but also leave the skin feeling soft and moisturized. No cracked skin here!

In addition to being hypoallergenic, vegan, and gluten-free, this product is also safe for greywater and septic systems.

Like Puracy’s laundry detergent and natural dish soap, the inclusion of certain ingredients like Benzisothiazolinone, known to potentially cause allergies, raises slight concerns.
